Just like the money wallet we carry with us every day, MetaMask is a crypto wallet that stores cryptocurrency. It also provides a gateway to blockchain apps.

I suggest that when it comes to Ethereum development you must have a MetaMask account to test and deploy the smart contracts. In this article, we will see how to set up a MetaMask Wallet in chrome.

Step 1: On your desktop, open this link: MetaMask download.

Step 2: Make sure ‘Chrome’ is selected. Now click on ‘Install MetaMask for Chrome’.

The MetaMask extension will be opened in the ‘chrome web store’.

Click on ‘Add to Chrome’

The above pop-up will appear, select ‘Add extension’ and wait for the download to complete.

Step 3: Once the download is complete, a new tab will open.

If this screen is not opened, then copy-paste the below link into a new chrome tab.

Step 4: Click on ‘Get Started.

Step 5: There are two options here, One to Import an existing wallet and another to create a new wallet. Since we don’t have a wallet, Select ‘Create a Wallet’.

Step 6: Read this carefully and click on ‘I Agree’

Step 7: Fill in the fields and click on ‘Create’.

Step 8: This is an important step. MetaMask gives you a Secret Recovery Phrase. Click on ‘CLICK HERE TO REVEAL SECRET WORDS’ to see the recovery phrase.

Your Secret Recovery Phrase makes it easy to back up and restore your account.
